From Sketch to Street

While we’re still basking in the success of The Gallery 2024, we're already gearing up for our next exciting and interactive exhibition. 'From Sketch to Street' will not only delve into the fascinating world of car design but also allow you to participate in trying out some of the processes that have shaped motor design.

Mark your calendars for mid-July and join us on this insightful journey. And remember, The Gallery 2024 is still open until 30 June.

The Gallery 2024 and Art Competition

While you are checking out The Gallery, we also have a competition you can enter. For aspiring young artists with a passion for automotive art, you could win the chance to showcase your work at the British Motor Museum. To enter, submit your artwork through our online portal by 8 July

There are three age categories for entry:
- Under 11s
- 11-16 years
- 17-25 years

The winning artworks will be displayed in the Museum from Friday 26 July 2024. The winner of each age category will also receive a generous reward of £50 worth of art vouchers.

As a special bonus, thanks to the generosity of our Founder Patron, Peter Mitchell, each winner will have the unique and inspiring opportunity to spend half a day with one of the artists featured in the exhibition. This is a chance to gain valuable insights and tips, from setting the scene for your next artwork to succeeding with art as a career.

New in the Museum

Continuing a growing relationship with Bentley Motors, you might have seen some new cars coming in and out of the Museum. We recently received a 1949 Bentley Mark VI which is here for a slightly longer stay! Arriving at the Museum on 7 May, you can find it at the main entrance.

Another recent addition to the Museum that you won’t have had a chance to see yet. We have been lucky enough to accept a donation of a 1955 Hillman Californian. Picked up only on Friday 24 May, it will have a good check over in the workshop before it goes out on display but watch this space because it will be on show soon!

Cars on the Road

What have we been doing, and where have we been since your last newsletter? As you will know, we are keen to keep our cars on the move and out and about. Highlights from the last few months include:

- Museum on the Move. It is a great event we use to celebrate the support of our members, and I am sure one that is also firmly on your calendars. On 26 April, with over ten cars prepped and ready for the event, this was a busy time for the Collections and Workshop team.
- Mini Moments. The Museum supported Surbiton-based Community Brain on another venture celebrating the Mini. On 18 May, Monte Mini 33 EJB and some of the Museum team went down to the site of the Cooper Car garage in Surbiton to celebrate all things Mini and all things 60s!
- Our 1963 Rover BRM gas turbine made it out and about over the late May bank weekend, appearing at the Prescott Speed Hill Climb 'Prescott Historique'.
