Frequently Asked Questions for Schools
How do I book a visit?
Contact us on:
t: 01926 895295
e: bookings@britishmotormuseum.co.uk
Do we need to pre-book a visit?
Yes. Pre-booking a visit is essential. This will help us ensure that you have the best possible experience and will help us to prevent the Museum from becoming over crowded.
What information do you need when we book a visit?
To book a visit or virtual session, our Bookings Team will need to know your preferred date, number and age group/Key Stage of students and the session you are interested in.
Are you able to help with the cost of transport to the Museum?
The British Motor Museum is proud to be able to offer a travel support fund aimed at helping with the cost of coach transport to the Museum. This has been made possible through the support of Arts Council England. (Terms and conditions apply, please ask our Bookings Team for more information).
How many students and support staff can I bring to the Museum?
Each session can run with a minimum of 8 children and a maximum of 90. We operate a 1:6 ratio of staff to students at EYFS to KS2 and a 1:8 ration for KS3 and KS4.
We can be flexible on this, especially if you are coming from a SEND school - contact our team for details. There is no minimum for Self-Led Visits.
Are you recognised for learning programmes and education provision?
The Museum has won a Sandford Award but that's not all, in every category we've received the top mark. This award is nationally recognised and demonstrates the quality of our learning programmes and education.
How have you made visits to the Museum 'COVID safe'?
The British Motor Museum has been awarded the ‘We’re Good to Go’ industry charter mark by VisitEngland. This means we have all the required processes in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable visit for all and we have adopted new approaches in order to adhere to current government guidelines. Lunch spaces and costumes will be fully sanitised between uses and Museum staff will wear face coverings and maintain a 2m social distance at all times. Surfaces in the Museum such as door handles are regularly sanitised and hand sanitiser is available for your students.
Do we need to wear face coverings inside the Museum?
If it is a current Government requirement to wear a face covering inside the Museum buildings, then unless you are exempt, you must do so. If it is no longer a government requirement then it is a personal choice and our staff will be happy to be led by your preference.
How long is a visit to the Museum?
Visits to the Museum usually last from 10am to 2pm, however you are welcome to stay until we close at 5pm, although your students will be under your supervision once any activities with the Learning Team have ended.
What happens when we arrive?
When you arrive, members of the Learning Team will come out to meet your coach in the Coach Parking Area at the front of the Museum.
Do you have space for us to eat lunch?
Yes, you will be given a fully sanitised space to eat your lunch.
Do you have space to keep our coats and bags during our visit?
Yes, you may leave these in your lunch space. Please note that any coats and bags are left at their owners’ risk.
Are we able to go to the Café on our visit?
We ask that students and staff bring their own lunches and staff remain with their students during their activities in the Museum including the lunch break. Groups of staff and students over the age of 18 are welcome to use the Café during lunch time.
Are we able to go into the Gift Shop on our visit?
You are welcome to go to the Gift Shop but please take note that if government regulations dictate, we may have to close or limit the numbers of persons in the shop at a time.
Are all parts of the Museum accessible to wheelchair users?
Yes. All parts of the Museum are fully wheelchair accessible.
Can we book a self-led visit?
Yes. Let the Bookings Team know if you are interested in a self-led visit. All self-led visits include a welcome from a member of the Learning Team, a coach parking space and a sanitised lunch space. If you would like a guided tour of the museum, please let the Bookings Team know.
