There are many ways to support us, now, as well as in the future – enabling us to continue celebrating the cars the industry has produced and the incredible people who were involved in their making, production and distribution. By leaving a gift in your Will to the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, you can help us to keep sharing the history of Britain’s motor industry, growing the collection and inspiring future generations.
We know how important it is to make sure your loved ones will be looked after once you are gone. But, after you have taken care of them, you may want to also leave a legacy to organisations important to you. By leaving a gift to the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, no matter the size, allows you to support our Museum long into the future. Creating a long-term impact on the Museum, the collection and the individuals and communities we engage with.
A message from Jeff Coope, our Managing Director
Our work here at the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust is to collect, preserve and protect the history of the motor industry in Britain and share it long into the future. Very much a people’s industry, we capture the work of pioneering inventors, designers, engineers, production and administration workers in factories up and down the country – celebrating not just the cars the industry has produced, but also the incredible people who designed and built them.
The stories we tell here at the Museum are, in fact, not ours at all; they are the stories of the industry's workforce and the impact they have had, and continue to have, on the motor industry in Britain. The car is part of the fabric of modern society, and we know how vital the industry has been in the lives of so many people. We’ve had millions of visitors over the years, from individuals to multi-generational families, who all have their own fascinating stories to tell about the car industry, and the opportunities it brought for them and their loved ones. Birmingham, Coventry and the West Midlands are still the centre of the UK motor industry, making the connections for those based in the region particularly strong.
As well as our role to conserve and share the past, we have a role to help create change now and in the future. Our learning programmes are designed to inspire children and young people, and the outreach programmes with local communities aim to deliver long-term positive impacts on the lives of individuals from all backgrounds. Unlocking memories of first cars through our handling boxes at dementia cafes and inspiring the next generation of engineers through our school visits and STEM programmes is every bit as important to us as preserving the collections in our care.
By leaving a gift in your Will to the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, you will leave an enduring personal legacy helping us create a lasting impact through sharing the stories of the people’s industry and inspiring future generations. It costs over £3 million every year to continue the Trust’s work, and we need to raise £740,000 of this in voluntary income to continue and expand our work into the future.
If you are considering leaving a gift in your Will, thank you.
