The Chalfont was introduced in 1935 and described by Austin as a 'medium sized chauffeur-driven car'. With a long chassis and a six cylinder, 18hp engine, the comfortable ride was provided by semi-elliptic road springs with Lucas shock absorbers and extra-low pressure Dunlop tyres.
Seating seven people on fine hide or cloth, wide doors and a low height contributed to the comfort. Electric lamps, parcel shelf, carpets and blinds were provided in the rear.
The chauffeur was separated by a glass screen with communication front to rear by telephone.
Offered in a choice of colours, the model lasted only two years, with a new Austin Eighteen being introduced in 1937.
