Ford’s TH!NK Mobility electric vehicle initiative began in 1999. TH!NK City was powered by a liquid cooled, three phase electric motor. The range was around 55 miles on one single charge and for easy re-charging a standard household socket could be used. It took 8 hours for a full charge and this cost about 40p.
The car had a steel underframe, an aluminium space-frame and corrosion and minor damage resistant thermoplastic body panels. Much of the car, including the batteries, could eventually be recycled. TH!NK City was introduced into the UK in 2001 as part of the TH!NK @BOUT LONDON scheme. Fifteen cars were leased to companies and government agencies for use in the capital city.
