Honda has been manufacturing cars at its Swindon plant in the UK since 1992. This British-built Honda Civic Tourer 1.6 i-DTEC holds the Guinness World Record for fuel efficiency. It was awarded the lowest fuel consumption across all 24 connected EU countries, a 8,387 mile journey starting from Belgium, travelling clockwise and returning to the starting point just over three weeks later.
The rules stated that all countries had to be visited with the same two drivers, meaning they were faced with the daily challenge of driving (economically) an average of 600km or 7 1⁄2 hours behind the wheel!
The Honda achieved the 2.82 l/100km or 100.31 mpg using just €645 or £459 of fuel (2015 prices).
