British Motor Museum
Military Land Rovers have always been a distinctive area of production, with many special vehicles being developed to armed forces' specifications, in formats unavailable for sale directly to the public. The Land Rover was valued by armed forces around the world for its versatility and hardiness and for its ability to provide reliable support services to front line armoured vehicles.
This model is the half-ton, based on the standard 88" chassis with 2.25 litre petrol engine and designed so that, in stripped down 'lightweight', form, it could be transported by air and dropped by parachute.
This half-ton is left-hand drive and never saw military service, being retained by Land Rover as a reference vehicle.
