The Paris-Dakar Rally is a 6,500 mile dash across France, Spain and North Africa. Taking 18 days, it is open to motorcycles, cars and trucks. In 1998, three specially prepared Discoverys were entered as high-speed support vehicles for the BMW motorcycle team.
Prepared by LR Special Vehicles with German rally preparation experts, Krontec, all trim was removed and racing seats and equipment fitted. The rear of the car was filled with a crash-proof long distance fuel tank, the suspension was uprated and strengthened axles fitted.
Whilst only one of the motorcycles completed the rally, all three Discoverys reached Dakar. This particular vehicle came a creditable 31st overall.
