In 1998 the Discovery was completely updated, although the 'Series II' retained much of the look of the original. At its launch, a group of journalists was invited to drive two cars from London to Paris… the long way around.
From London the cars were driven to Istanbul, then through Turkey, Iran, Pakistan and India. From Calcutta the cars were shipped to Australia and driven west to east. At Sydney they were flown to New York. Driving south, the cars crossed into Mexico and through Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and the rainforests of Costa Rica.
A sea crossing back to Spain, and finally via the Alps to Paris for the world premiere of Discovery. More than 30,000 km had been completed.
