The Silk Trail 2013 expedition was a 10,472 mile journey from Solihull to Mumbai. The vehicles chosen were three Range Rover Diesel Hybrid prototypes. Overall the journey took 53 days and crossed 13 countries following the legendary Silk Road trading routes that first connected Asia with Europe. It was the final validation for the hybrid before it was signed-off for production.
Seven consecutive days were spent between 11,000 and 17,648 feet and despite some of the tracks being so sticky with mud that they were impassable to other types of vehicle, the Range Rover's hybrid engine combination returned 36 to 37 mpg. This vehicle is one of those Range Rover Diesel Hybrid prototypes which completed the mammoth trip.
