Introduced in 1965, the MGB GT was conceived as 'the poor man's Aston Martin'. The bodywork was styled by Syd Enever but with some final retouches by Pininfarina.

The GT quickly established itself in the marketplace, offering the same performance as the Roadster but with the added versatility of children's seats in the back, more luggage space, as well as a roof which made it more sensible for all-year-round motoring.

This MGB was sectioned into two halves for the GT's launch at the 1965 Motor Show. The car was exhibited at Earl's Court with the slogan 'MG magic in a new shape'. The MGB show car was upgraded to Mark II specification for the 1967 Turin Motor Show.
