This particular MG Metro has an experimental, all-aluminium body and 'Alum' was one of six aluminium 'replicas' of steel production cars, including a regular trim Metro.
Following on from the ECV3 concept car, the panels were affixed using a Permabond adhesive, developed by ALCAN in collaboration with British Leyland. In 1985 dwindling resources meant the programme was cancelled.
The steel bodied 'MG' and 'MG turbo' Metros were introduced in 1982 and were the first cars to carry the MG badge since the demise of the much loved MGB.
Over 140,000 MG models alone were sold, making the MG Metro one of the most popular MG models ever.
