In 1936 Morgan's first four wheel model appeared and with a steel chassis and an ash frame body, this light, fast sports car quickly became a success.
The 4-4 took many cues from its three-wheeled brother, including the trademark Morgan 'sliding pillar' front suspension. Initially only available as a two seater, a four seater car was introduced in 1937.
The 1100cc engine as fitted to this model was made by Coventry Climax, whose engines were used by several makers of light cars at the time. When a drophead coupé version of the 4-4 was put on the market in 1938, a new engine was made for Morgan by Standard, starting a 30-year-long partnership between the two companies.
