Range Rover has always been popular with UK police forces. Its wide range of abilities makes it ideal for a variety of tasks. Its strength, capaciousness and towing ability mean it is ideal for motorway patrol as well as special duties.
This second generation Range Rover started with Durham Constabulary. It is fitted out as an armed response unit with ballistic protection. The front half of the vehicle is equipped with bullet proof glass and armoured panels. Special lockers in the rear house the necessary equipment required for any incident.
In 2001 the Range Rover was transferred to Strathclyde Police, continuing in service as an armoured vehicle in Glasgow's Police Support Unit until March 2006.
